Brandlhuber: architecture as theory of a practice -
Arno
Brandlhuber is an internationally known architect for embracing various
disciplines in his practice, from art, to cinema, to writing, just to name a few;
his practice is based on coordination of projects and teaching. His idea of “architecting” is an on going
process that questions multiple aspects and fields, where legislation reveals
to be a key point in planning. In the interview A. B. explains how he deals the
strict German legislation from the initial phase of a project until to the
final building.
Even in the past there are examples where politcs was the cultural avant-garde capable of changing urban planning, and architecture had to follow new criteria and requirements established by a body of laws and by new technicians. Precisely for this reason we are talking about Pombaline Lisbon and Haussmann’s Paris, giving priority to the administrator rather than the architects who conceived the buildings.
here I propose the interview made by Joana Duarte and Joana Jordão to A.B. held in March, when he was in Lisbon on invitation of Trienal de Arquitetura for the 3rd edition of the series of conferences Critical Distances in the CCB. Here a short video about his Antivilla, where he explains some of his practice.
